If you grew tired of the crowded resort, the small cruise ship or the traditional way of vacationing, the following list of retreated and almost hidden islands is sure to make you reconsider the way you vacation. From warm climate to cold, from lush vegetation to white sand here is a list with some of the most beautiful hidden places on the planet.

Summer Isles – Scotland

The Scottish Highlands might not be everyone’s idea of a great vacation spot, but the incredibly beautiful sights offered by the virtually deserted Summer Isles archipelago offers everything a quite nature loving tourist could ever want.

Lord Howe Island – Australia

With virtually no cell-phone reception and an almost no car allowed rule, tourists will surely enjoy the solitude this island on the eastern coast of New South Wales. The volcanic island has some of the most amazing coral reef with 90 indigenous species of coral and over 500 of tropical fish. The island is named a UNESCO World Heritage site because of the lush and luxuriant biodiversity.

Chiloe – Chile

The archipelago of Chiloe is located near Patagonia in a beautifully secluded area filled with wooden houses and shingled churches. The islands have miles of virgin beaches and forests that are littered with picturesque paths for the avid hiker. You can also look for some indigenous species of birds while sailing or kayaking through the islands.
