High Alert in Taiwan, China Due to Typhoon

Taiwan released a statement that gives warning regarding heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday. This weather will probably affect most part of the islands as Typhoon Saola, which is moving slowly, is approaching Taiwan. As for China, Premier Wen Jiabao informed the authorities to be on high alert to prevent mortality.

According to the Central Weather Bureau, the typhoon can cause 1,000 mm of rain to certain parts of Taiwan, with winds of about 119 km per hour. In addition, the report stated that the storm is expected to skirt the northern part of the island or it could also have a landfall on Thursday. The typhoon will also hit Chinese provinces in the southeast, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Another typhoon, Typhoon Damrey, is expected to pass the northern part of China on Thursday. Wen told the authorities to prepare and put people’s lives as first priority.

The ruling Communist Party has received criticisms due to poor management of floods last month. This incident has caused death to 77 people.

As of now, Typhoon Saola is in the category two of Tropical Storm Risk. But there are studies that it can get higher within 36 hours, when it crosses China.
