Homer Bailey Close To Reds Deal
Homer Bailey, the only player from the Reds left in arbitration said he is close to completing a deal with his team on Monday with just several days away from the first scheduled arbitration hearing.
Starter Homer Bailey and Reds management have been working on this deal for the entire off-season. The player has an arbitration hearing scheduled for next Friday in Florida. There have been rumors that the two sides have been working on a six year deal, however, nothing has yet been confirmed. The player said that most things have been agreed upon with just a couple of small details remaining. He added that the two sides are really close to signing a deal before the scheduled arbitration meeting.
Bailey, who is 27-years-old was the seventh overall pick back in 2004. Since then he managed to become a valuable part of the team becoming a starter in the last two years. He won $5,350,000 last season asking for $11.6 million in arbitration with the Reds offering $8.7 million.
Bailey’s breakthrough season was back in 2012 when he went a career-best of 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA. During that season he became the third player to throw a no-hitter in Reds history along with Johnny Vander Meer and Jim Maloney.
