Hugo Chavez Suffers Complications After Cancer Surgery

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez appears to be suffering major complications after his fourth cancer related surgery on the 11th of December 2012.

The popular president, who’s condition wasn't very good to begin with appears to be now suffering from a respiratory infection.

Vice President Nicolas Maduro, announced the President's condition at a press conference in Havana where Chavez is being treated, and urged Venezuelans to pray for their President's recovery.

A New Year’s Eve concert that was about to take place in the center of Caracas was cancelled as a sign of respect to the severity of the President’s condition.

A Caracas church was filled to the brink with close to 300 people on New Year’s Eve afternoon that prayed for Chavez’s recovery, they were joined by Chavez’s aides who also prayed at the presidential palace.

Despite all the praying, chances that Hugo Chavez will be healthy enough to be sworn in for a new 6 year term as president are bleak.

According to the Venezuelan constitution, if Hugo Chavez dies or is unable to continue as president a new election has to take place in 30 days.

Before undergoing his 4th surgery, Hugo Chavez recognized the serious risks involved and named vice-president Nicolas Maduro as his successor, in case he would die or be unfit to continue as president.
