Hydration And Nutrition Of Casey Kasem To Be Stopped
Judge Daniel S. Murphy of the LA Superior Court reversed an earlier decision as he upheld a health directive that will stop the nutrition and hydration of Casey Kasem.
An earlier decision ordered the continuous hydration and feeding of the radio legend following a request of his wife, Jean Kasem. Jean is currently in a feud with the three children of the first wife of the 82-year-old radio icon, who is currently in hospice care. Kerri Kasem was also made the temporary conservator of the radio legend.
Steven Haney, lawyer of Jean Kasem, said Jean is broken-hearted and was disturbed by the latest ruling of the court.
Haney added that the invitation of the family for his client to return to Washington was all show. Documents filed by Troy L. Martin, lawyer of Kerri Kasem, revealed that the continuous artificial hydration and nutrition of the patient will add to his suffering while prolonging the dying process.
A statement released by the family indicated that the decision of the court upheld the explicit wisher of Casey Kasem who expressed a healthcare directive in 2011.
The statement indicated that the directive from the former “Top 40” host said he did not want any life-sustaining procedures if extending his life will result to no reasonable hope of functioning normally. The family also said the decision to transfer the treatment of the radio icon to a comfort-oriented care facility.
The radio icon was transferred by Jean from a facility in Santa Monica to the Washington state hospice in May without informing the family.
The family also said the former radio host was surrounded by his daughters, son, brother, sister-in-law and friend. They are also hoping that Jean and her daughter, Liberty, will join the family.
The temporary conservatorship of Kerri Kasem will be effective until a permanent conservatorship for Casey Kasem hearing is conducted on June 20.
