Watson, the supercomputer invented by IBM, is now being groomed to team up with WellPoint, a health insurer, to assist medical doctors in diagnosing and treating diseases among patients. It will be Watson’s first commercial application. The supercomputer is known for defeating two very intelligent human champions on the hit television show Jeopardy last February.
Watson will be used by physicians in aiding them in their decision making process. WellPoint with its 34 million members will experience an improve patient and health care by the help of Watson, IBM’s supercomputer. WellPoint will launch and develop a Watson-based solution to deliver evidence-based and up-to-date health care for millions of residents across the United States.
Watson has the ability to understand spoken language. The supercomputer has also the ability to carefully analyze the context and meaning of human language, can quickly process multiple and cosmic amounts of data, suggest options and assists in decision making. Watson would likely help doctors and nurses in indentifying the causes, diagnosis and also recommends medical options to patients.
The supercomputer Watson was named after Thomas Watson, IBM’s founder. It can rifle and search through 200 million pages of information and provide precise and accurate responses in seconds.
