Indian Rape Victim’s Death Stirs Anger
The unidentified 23 year old young woman who was gang raped in a New Delhi mass transport unit died this Saturday in the Singapore Hospital where she was sent for treatment.
Her condition was severe, suffering grave internal damage and brain injury during her attack. She was attacked on the 16th of December on a bus in the city of New Delhi and gang raped.
Police has six suspects detained, who if charged with murder can expect serious jail time, even death.
The news of the horrible act didn't go unanswered by the Indian public, as both violent and peaceful protests have been seen across India.
Thanks to this unfortunate incident a huge debate about the justice system and the way it treats sex offenders and sex crimes has gripped Indian society.
Worried of a violent reaction to the news of the young woman’s death, Indian police has closed a number of metro stations, parts of central New Delhi and has deployed close to 1000 extra policemen.
However, all these measures didn't manage to prevent thousands of people to gather in the center of New Delhi and protest , because of the death of the Indian rape victim, against the way this situation was handled by officials.
Indian protesters also asked for better women’s rights and called for the death penalty for those accused of the heinous crime.
