Indianapolis 500 Won By Ryan Hunter-Reay
Ryan Hunter-Reay became a part of history as he beat Hello Castroneves in the Indianapolis 500. Only 0.060 seconds separated the two drivers in an exhilarating final lap. The finish was the second closest since Scott Goodyear bowed down to Al Unser in 1992 by 0.043 seconds.
Hunter-Reay said he was a proud American and the race was an American tradition. He became the first American to win the Indy 500 since 2006.
On the other hand, Castroneves was set to become the fourth driver to win the race for the fourth time. After his loss, he was devastated and had to
compose himself in his car before he could speak. His rhythm was broken after track workers cleaned up the track of debris following a red flag with ten laps to go.
He said it was a remarkable race and he had a great time. However, he did not like finishing second to the American in the Indianapolis 500. Third place went to Marco Andretti while Carlos Munoz placed fourth in the race. Kurt Busch, who placed sixth, immediately left following the race to join the Sprint Cup race of NASCAR. Busch is attempting to become the second driver to race 1,100 miles in a single day.
Although Marco Andretti seemed to have a shot at first place, he did not get past the first two finishers of the race. He said that Ryan is his friend and plays a huge role in the team. Andretti added that Hunter-Reay deserved the win at the Indianapolis 500.
Hunter-Reay thought he did not have any chance in the race as the red flag was brought out following the crash of Townsend Bell. However, after three lead changes with Castroneves, he was able to make a decisive pass that allowed him to take the white flag,
Castroneves said that both of them were at the edge of being stupid and brave. He was also happy that the Indianapolis 500 ended well for both of them.
