Insane Clown Posse Sues Justice Department
In news that amuses rather than shocks, the Insane Clown Posse has sued the United States Justice Department this Wednesday. The reason behind the legal action is a 2011 FBI report that described the Insane Clown Posses’ fans also called Juggalos as a “dangerous gang".
The lawsuit was filed in Detroit by The American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of the two Insane Clown Posse members Joseph Bruce known by his stage name Violent J and Joseph Utsler also known as Shaggy 2 Dope. Four fans are also named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit saying that the report has harmed the reputation and businesses of the band’s fans.
The problematic FBI report deemed the Juggalos as a “loosely organized hybrid gang”. The same report said that some Juggalos have committed various illegal acts like assaults and vandalism while a small part of them have actually moved on to serious crimes.
Michael Steinberg along with the two band members in their trademark makeup held a press conference in Detroit this Wednesday and explained the reason behind the lawsuit.
The two members said that their merchandise sales have been basically cut in half as people are reluctant to show appreciation for their music or identify themselves as Juggalos because of the report and how that could affect their life.
