International Films Featured On Sundance Film Festival

A number of international movies and documentaries are included in the Sundance Film Festival.

The ten-day event was established by Robert Redford and highlights 119 movies from thirty-two countries around the world. Among the movies that will be showcased at the Sundance Film Festival is “May in the Summer” of Cherien Dabis. Dabis caught the attention of the organizers with “Amreeka” in 2009.

Dabis, a Palestinian-American, gives moviegoers a different perspective of the Middle East. "May in the Summer" shows a successful Jordanian woman in America who goes through an identity crisis after returning to Jordan to prepare her wedding.

In addition to the movie of Dabis, a number of other movies will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival. Among these movies are “Twenty Feet from Stardom,” “Crystal Fairy,” and “Who is Dayani Cristal.”

According to John Cooper, the director of the Sundance Film Festival, the organizers are looking for movies that will establish the tone of the event until the end.

The organizers are exerting more effort in attracting international films to the festival. Dabis indicated that the organizers of the Sundance Film Festival are aware of the importance of the continuously changing world as a number of American movies have come from other parts of the world.

Robert Redford said that the Sundance Film Festival is all about supporting a diverse film industry. He said that the event will remain consistent with its original goal of supporting and developing new voices if it continues to adapt to change. Aside from the usual film categories, the Sundance Film Festival has also included a number of edgier movies in its lineup.

Over forty short films have also joined the Sundance Film Festival, which has become a welcome respite from the awards season of Hollywood since it offers a more relaxed atmosphere.
