Iranian Naval Forces Conduct Military Exercises
The Islamic Republic News Agency recently reported that a six-day military exercise was being conducted by the Iranian naval forces along the Strait of Hormuz.
Habibollah Sayari, the Iranian Naval Commander, said that the military exercises intend to show the readiness of the Iranian naval forces in defending the waterways of the country as well as its national interests. The exercises cover an area that includes the Sea of Oman and the northern part of the Indian Ocean.
The Iranian naval forces will be testing its missile systems, submarines and combat vessels.
The nuclear program of Iran is currently in the middle of a conflict between the country and the world powers. The nuclear program is reportedly going to be used in the development of nuclear weapons, which Iran has repeatedly denied.
Israel has also indicated that its options are open when it comes to preventing Iran from manufacturing a nuclear weapon and one of the options is a military offensive.
The military exercises of the Iranian naval forces are just one of the times when the country would periodically display its military equipment, which are manufactured locally. It also conducts regular military exercises to demonstrate its readiness amid apparent threats from Israel and the US.
Military officials in Iran had announced last September that the Iranian naval forces will conduct military exercises in the southern waters of the country.
