Iraq’s double explosion kills 27, wounds 50
Baghdad was shocked today by two explosions. These explosions almost happened simultaneously at a municipal government building in the Iraqi town of Taji. Officials have reported that there are at least 27 people who are killed from the blast, and 50 others were left wounded.
According to the security sources, the first explosion was caused by a car bomb and the other set of explosives detonated from an unknown source in a crowded parking lot of the government building in Taji, which is approximately 20 km (12 miles) north of Baghdad.
Raad al-Tamimi, who is the head of the Taji municipality, said that, "It was a double explosion. The first was caused by a car bomb. We have no idea what the second was, whether a suicide bomber or a roadside bomb."
He also noted that the place was crowded with people who are processing official papers and other government employees, along with the police.
An initial toll of 35 dead and 28 wounded people was released, however, the Deputy Health Minister Khamis al-Saad stated that there are 27 people who were killed and 50 were injured.
These bombings are believed to follow a series of attacks that mainly targeted Iraqi security forces over the last 2 days, they have already killed at least ten police and soldiers, and wounding 22 others.
