Islamist Sects Attack Nigerian Churches and Households
Northeast Nigerian town of Geidam was set on fire after radical Islamist sect attacked churches, home and police headquarters last Sunday, November 27.
Boko Haram of the local Hausa is said to be responsible for numerous shootings and attacks with improvised explosives devices. Police officials stated that Geidam divisional police headquarters and First Bank were attacked on Saturday evening by Boko Haram. Likewise, four policemen died, 20 wounded, 20 market stalls, eight churches and Geidam council secretariat are totally destroyed.
The town of Geidam is known to be small in the Yobe state, which overlaps the Nigeria-Niger border and the hometown of a powerful and famous state governor. Police officials added that Boko Haram often attacks politicians who are corrupt and have abandoned the northeast region impoverished.
Most of the attacks took place in and around of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. Security sources likewise said that a boost in military numbers from previous months in Borno has encouraged the Islamist sect’s attack.
Further, Boko Haram is also responsible for the attack in Damaturu, a capital of Yobe that left 65 people dead. Likewise, Haram is the man behind two bombings in Abuja and the suicide attack in the United Nations that killed 26 people.
