Israel Plans New Construction In West Bank

Israel state representatives announced that they will resume construction in the West Bank settlements in the not so distant future. The news seemed to create quite a stir with Palestinian leaders, making President Mahmoud Abbas take a tour of Europe in an effort to convince E.U. leaders that such a move might hurt peace talks.

Israeli state representatives responded to Mahmoud Abbas’ efforts saying that the Palestinian side was the first to break the conditions of the peace process that started in July and is due to end next March.

He said that one of the key elements of the negotiation was that Palestinian leaders should stop promoting unilateral statehood in international forums, a key element that was repeatedly disregarded by most Palestinian political figures.

Representatives of Israel also said that the incitement that is going on in the Palestinian territories is unacceptable due to the continued calls for the delegitimization of Israel. He also added that Palestinian leaders were well aware that Israel didn't commit to halting construction in the West Bank settlements during the peace negotiations.

However, despite apparent problems, peace talks are progressing with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu meeting Secretare of State John Kerry in Rome this Wednesday to discuss how the entire process will move along.
