Jack Klugman Passes Away At 90
Legendary TV star Jack Klugman has passed away at the age of 90 in his home in Northridge California. His wife was at his side when he passed away peacefully.
Klugman, a son of Russian Jewish immigrants, is well-known for his role in “The Odd Couple” television series. Klugman played the role of Oscar Madison, a cigar-puffing sportswriter, on the 1970s television show. He also took on the title role of a medical examiner show solves crimes on the show “Quincy, M.E.”.
A guest appearance by Jack Klugman on “The Defenders” earned him his first Emmy in 1964. He was also nominated for a Tony Award in 1960 for his role as Herbie on the Broadway musical, “Gypsy.”
Klugman won an Emmy in 1971 and 1973 for playing Oscar on “The Odd Couple”, which was not quite a hit when it went on air from 1970 to 1975. Despite this, the characters on the show were a part of the 1999 TV Guide “Fifty Greatest Characters Ever” on TV.
After the run of “The Odd Couple” ended, Klugman indicated that he would rather not do another television series. He passed on a number of scripts before receiving the “Quincy, M.E.” script. He said that the show had potential since it was about a doctor who solved crimes.
Jack Klugman is survived by his wife Peggy and sons David and Adam.
