James Spader To Join Avengers Cast As Ultron
Marvel Studios announced recently that James Spader will take the role of the genocidal robot, Ultron, in the upcoming “Avengers: Age of Ultron” movie. Spader is popularly known as Robert California of “The Office” and Steff in “Pretty in Pink.” The casting of James Spader may make Ben Affleck playing the Batman appear less controversial.
Ultron is a character in Marvel Comics that was originally created by Hank Pym, a member of the Avengers. The robot, which initially appeared on the 54th issue of the Avengers comic book, generally hates humans and has plotted to destroy humanity each time it returns to torment the Avengers. The “Age of Ultron” comic book series is not related to the movie, according to screenwriter and director Joss Whedon.
Although the acting experience of James Spader is suitable for him to play the role of the robot, he does not have the physical presence that will suggest an unstoppable killing machine. This description may be suitable for other actors like Vin Diesel. However, he is already playing another role in another Marvel movie. This shows that the Marvel Studios has no qualms in casting against type whenever it is needed.
It remains uncertain if the actor will make a physical appearance on the movie. It may be possible for the actor to simply provide his voice to a CGI robot on the movie. If the voice of Spader will be used, then it will be similar to the way the voice of Paul Bettany was used for JARVIS, the artificial intelligence on the Iron Man movies.
The movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with James Spader is set to hit the big screen on May 1, 2015.
