Japan stuns US to win first women's world cup

Frankfurt, Germany - It was a sweet victory for the Japanese women's team to defeat the United States in the finals of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Sunday night. The Japanese team defeated the Americans on penalty kicks after the two teams were tied at 2-2. The Japanese prevailed in a score of 3-1 on penalty kicks.

Finally, the Japanese team defeated the American for the first time in 25 tries. The victory has never been sweeter for Japan after it has been devastated by a strong earthquake and tsunami last March 11. It was also the first World Cup victory by the Japanese Women's Soccer Team.

It was a dream come true for Japanese Women's team to have reached the finals and winning is just an icing of the cake. Despite the game was aired very early in Tokyo at 4am in the morning, many Japanese fans patiently watched the game.

The Americans could have been the first women's team to win the World Cup for the third time but failed miserably. They won the World Cup twice in 1991 and 1999.

Japan stunned the host country, Germany, in the quarterfinals and Sweden before eventually booting their American rivals. The United States also had its share of limelight by beating favorites Brazil before trouncing another European semi-finalist, France. Although disappointed, the Americans admitted that the Japanese were better players and that they lost to the best team in the whole tournament.
