Japanese Divorce celebrations increased after Disasters
Tokyo — Japan has been struck by massive earthquakes and tsunamis during the past few months, and as of the moment they are still dealing with the ongoing nuclear crisis. These ordeals may have caused the unhappy couples to reevaluate their relationships and pursue the enrichment on their own lives.
55,000 yen ($690), this is approximately how much a couple would have to pay to be able to enjoy their single lives once more. Apparently, the whole ‘celebration’ would include a meal buffet and is followed by the ritual of smashing of the couple’s wedding rings with the use of a gavel.
The couple Tomoharu and Miki Saito chose to avail of the said divorce celebration and each felt different emotions as it commences. Tomoharu said that the crushing of the rings felt liberating. Meanwhile, Miki was given the option to choose a ‘divorce dress,’ which, according to the designer, Akiue Go, is made to emphasize the female’s back. This is done to make sure that the woman’s back would look most beautiful when she is walking away.
The pioneer of divorce ceremonies Hiroki Terai, has already celebrated more than 80 divorces and since the earthquake and the massive tsunamis the demand for such celebrations have increased three times.
Couples celebrate the event for different reasons but for Miki Saito, it is more of a need to be with her family above all.
