Jay Leno May Be Replaced By Jimmy Fallon On “The Tonight Show”
Jay Leno’s Monday night joke made things pretty clear when it comes to the relationship between him and NBC executives.
He mentioned the Legend of St Patrick saying “You know the whole legend of St. Patrick right? St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland, and then they came to the United States and became NBC executives.”
The joke only added to the rumors that NBC bosses are planning to replace Leno with “Late Show” host Jimmy Fallon. This could possibly mean a lot of changes in “The Tonight Show” universe, one of the biggest being the location change from Los Angeles to New York, where the show was initially broadcast from during the days of Steve Allen.
This isn't the first time NBC has tried to change things in “The Tonight Show”. Back in 2009, Leno was replaced by then “Late Show” host Conan O’Brian. A move that proved disastrous, to NBC as O’Brian failed to bring the ratings they desired. NBC exec’s had to reinstate Leno losing a lot of viewers and suffering a backlash from the O’Brian fans.
However, NBC executives are sure that Jimmy Fallon can hold the ratings, and maybe bring in more young viewers. Jay Leno inherited the “Tonight Show” host chair from the great Johnny Carson back in 1992.
