Hip hop legend and one of the wealthiest artists still performing, Jay-Z is apparently going to give a modern taste of jazz to Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel “The Great Gatsby”.

Even though rumors and news of Jay's involvement in the soundtrack circulated as early as last year, the hip-hop performer’s role was confirmed only this Friday in a release from Warner Bros.

Jay-Z said that he wants to bring a “modern Jazz age energy” to the movie, and that the soundtrack will feature some of the world’s top artists, an easy promise to make when you can call Kanye West and Chris Martin your friends.

The rapper was introduced to Luhrmann by Leanoardo DiCaprio, who will be interpreting the lead character, Mr Gatsby, in this new adaptation.

The Warner Bros statement said that “The Great Gatsby” is the classic American novel that shows one’s first experience into a world of extravagance and decadence. It also said that Luhrmann's original ideas and views on soundtrack scores have made previous movies of his like “Moulin Rouge” and “Romea + Juliet” true modern masterpieces.

Jay-Z will be teaming up with Craig Armstrong on the soundtrack of “The Great Gatsby”, the composer who worked with Luhrmann on most of his latest movies.
