Jeff Gordon Earns Third Win For The Season

Jeff Gordon won his third Sprint Cup for the season as he overtook Joey Logano following a restart. Gordon did not give up the lead in the last seventeen laps of the Pure Michigan 400.

The win allowed Gordon to tie with Brad Keselowski, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jimmie Johnson for the series lead. Coming in second in the race was Kevin Harvick and Logano came in third place. Paul Menard and Earnhardt rounded up the top five of the race.

Logano revealed that they were jockeying for position during the restart and Gordon had the advantage going into the corner. Jeff Gordon carried the lead until the end of the race.

Denny Hamlin, Ryan Newman, Johnson and Earnhardt had an animated discussion about how they jockeyed for positions during the last few laps of the race. Newman was not pleased when Johnson came into contact with him in the later part of the race. However, Johnson said the actions of Newman were typical of his style, which is to race harder than everyone else.

A similar heated discussion involving Newman was also noted following a 2010 race in Michigan. The first case study on the recent prohibition of the NASCAR from moving towards the racing surface and other cars was provided by Kyle Larson. Larson exited his car after it burst into flames following a collision with the wall. He stood outside the car while waiting for the arrival of emergency personnel.

Standard procedures were unveiled by the NASCAR last Friday following the death of Kevin Ward, Jr. after he was hit by the sprint car of Tony Stewart on a New York track. The first twenty five laps of the race saw the cars of a number of contenders being damaged.

Jeff Gordon already has three wins to his name in the season, which is a first for the four-time series champion.
