Jerry West Talks With Kevin Durant
NBA Legend and member of the executive board of the Golden State Warriors, Jerry West, talked with Kevin Durant over the telephone in an effort to recruit the NBA star. While West did not tell Durant which team to select, he did give a number of reasons why the Warriors is the best team for the NBA star.
West talked with the superstar forward from the standpoint of a star player who did not have an easy time in getting an NBA championship ring. West was unable to get the ring on his first seven appearances at the NBA Finals before finally nailing a championship with the LA Lakers in 1972. The 78-year-old West told Durant that his losses still bothered him up to today.
West also said it will be easier for Kevin Durant to win a championship if he plays together with the star trio of Golden State, namely Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry. West told the player that most of his shot attempts were contested and not easy to take. He added that it will be easier for him to score points at Golden State and may take a lesser number of shot in scoring his points.
West also said the overall game of the player is not noticed at Oklahoma City. While Durant is among the best scorers at the NBA, his rebounding and defense appears to be overlooked. Last season, he averaged 8.2 rebounds per game.
West told Durant that the other aspects of his game will be noticed if he joins a team with notable scorers. Kevin Durant will be recognized as a notable all-around player and attention will not be focused on his scoring. Jerry West has the reputation of being a top recruiter and is among the best executives in the history of the league. He was credited for convincing Shaquille O’Neal in joining the Lakers.
