Jim Carrey Won’t Star In “Kick-Ass 2”

Popular funny man Jim Carrey turned down “Kick-Ass 2” because he didn't want to be involved with something that seemingly promoted such a high level of violence in the wake of the Sandy Hook incident.

The star went to Twitter and said that he is not “ashamed” of the movie but that last December’s incident caused him to have a change of heart.

“Kick-Ass” writer Mark Millar, who also executive produced the two pictures said through his blog that while he respects Carrey’s view on gun control he is left “baffled” by his announcement, especially as the movie was filmed exactly as dictated by the screenplay that Carrey read and agreed to do 8 months ago.

He also said that while the "body count” was indeed high, a movie entitled “Kick-Ass” must deliver something in direct proportion to its name.

Millar also said that Col. Stars, Carrey’s character was a born again Christian that didn't fire a single round throughout the movie, the very reason Carrey agreed to play him in the first place.

The writer also responded to Jim Carrey’s decision by saying that unlike other summer blockbusters that have a huge body count without a reason or an explanation, “Kick-Ass” focuses on the consequences of violence, as we are clearly shown when in the first movie, when the main character spends nearly half a year in a hospital after getting in a street fight.
