JK Rowling Disappointed With Pseudonym Leak
When it was revealed that JK Rowling used a pseudonym when she wrote “The Cuckoo’s Calling,” the Harry Potter author felt very angry about it.
The leak that indicated that she used the pseudonym Robert Galbraith for the crime novel reportedly came from the law firm Russells. She said that her trust was misplaced and saying that she was disappointed was an understatement.
She said that only a small number of people knew about the pseudonym, and it was unpleasant to learn that someone learned a secret that was not known to a good number of her friends.
The law firm indicated that it unreservedly apologized for what happened. The legal firm indicated through a statement that the wife of Chris Gossage, a partner of the law firm, revealed the secret to Judith Callegari, her best friend. The revelation was made in a private conversation and the disclosure was made to a person who was implicitly trusted.
Callegari reportedly tweeted that JK Rowling was Robert Galbraith to a journalist of the Sunday Times. The law firm indicated that after they knew about the situation, they immediately contacted the agent of the author.
Speculations emerged indicating that the leak was part of a promotional campaign for the novel. But Russells revealed that the leak was not connected to any promotional plan. It also revealed that the author, her agent and publishers were not involved in the leak.
Good reviews met the novel when it was initially published. It is about a war veteran who became a private investigator. Prior to the leak, around 1,500 copies were sold, however it quickly topped the sales list of Amazon after it was revealed that JK Rowling used Galbraith as a pseudonym.
The author said that she found it liberating to write using a pseudonym. JK Rowling wanted to keep her pseudonym a secret for a longer time since she felt wonderful to publish without any expectations or hype.
