John Green’s Fault In Our Stars Gets Good Reviews
The Fault In Our Stars, the recently premiered movie based on the book of writer and YouTube personality John Green seems to be a success with most critics giving it solid reviews.
The movie is based on John Green’s best-seller and follows the romance between two 18 year olds who are both diagnosed with terminal cancer. The screenplay was beautifully adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber while leading the project director Josh Boone managed to perfectly capture the strong emotional charge of the book.
Lead actors Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort give amazing performances that transform the film from a young-adult oriented tearjerker to a strong cinematic performance that can reach more than its intended audience.
Much of the interesting, original and clever dialogue in the movie is due to writer John Green himself, who got a real inside view of the terminally ill, their outlook on life and their entire situation while working as a chaplain in a children’s hospital. While the movie certainly has some religious undertones they are balanced and well placed so that they don’t overtake the storyline.
The movie offers an intelligent, brave and genuine look into the story instead of general platitudes and feel-good recipes that most often plague young-adult movies. The powerful performance by both lead actors is one of the major bonuses of the movie, proposing two new names to watch out for in the not so distant future.
