John Kerry Tries To Obtain Political Reform Promises In Egypt

In a recent visit to the country’s capital, Cairo, secretary of state John Kerry has reminded Egyptian leaders, politicians and businessmen how urgent both economic and political reforms are needed and that this is the only way they can securely be granted a $4.8 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund or IMF.

Kerry also noted that the Egyptian economy needs to get “back on its feet” and he said that the IMF loan could offer the market enough stability for that goal to be reached.

This is the new secretary of state’s first visit to an Arab capital, and it comes at a time when Egypt economy seems to be heading towards a total collapse. With a series of never-ending protests caused by the way the newly elected politicians have acted after the overthrowel of long time president Hosni Mubarak, Egypt seems to have no real opportunities to regain a positive balance for its economy.

John Kerry will meet with opposition leaders too in an effort to promote a democratic solution to the two year long political crisis that has crippled the economy. John Kerry will meet Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi tomorrow before leaving for Saudi Arabia in his seventh stop of his nine nation tour.
