John Kerry’s Brazil Visit Deals With NSA Issue
In his visit to Brazil’s capital city Brasilia, United States Secretary of State John Kerry advised Brazilian politicians not to let the recent NSA scandal affect the growing trade, both cultural and economic between the number one and two economies of the American continent.
Kerry also said that both Brazil and other allies of the United States will be informed and understand what the NSA was doing and how it will help in the fight against terrorism. Even with promises of long overdue explanations Kerry made no suggestions that the U.S. will stop its information gathering.
Antonio Patriota, the Brazilian foreign minister said that his country needs more than just explanations regarding the NSA information gathering and that the relationship between the two countries risks to be “overshadowed” by the fact that their allies are recording the private data of Brazilian citizens.
Kerry’s visit to Brazil was made to deal with the NSA issue and to prepare Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff’s visit to the White House, a visit that can be the conclusive factor in Brazil’s decision to sign a multibillion dollar deal with the U.S. for the purchase several fighter jets.
Kerry mentioned that while things still need to be talked through, he doesn't think that the relation between the two countries will be affected.
