Jonathan Herrera Signs With Boston Red Sox
Franklin Morales, the left-hander that had an impressive debut with the Red Sox as long as his health kept him in the starting team, is leaving the Boston team and heading back to the Colorado Rockies.
Apparently Morales will be traded alongside Minor League’s Chris Martin for infielder Jonathan Herrera who will probably sign with the Red Sox next week at the latest. While the news would make sense, neither of the two teams has confirmed the trade.
Ben Cherington, the Boston Red Sox general manager has apparently been looking for a player with Herrera’s qualities, one that can add a new layer of “depth” on the infield.
Herrera was born in Venezuela and managed to get into the Majors just a 5 years ago in 2008. The switch hitter has a 5 foot 9 inches height and weighs 150 pounds. He played his entire career for the Colorado Rockies and has played 81 games in 2013 so far with a 292 hit from 195 bats.
He also played as a shortstop and second base man with a single experience in third base in the 2012-2013 season. With no changes in the signing of Stephen Drew, the Boston Red Sox will begin their season with Xander Bogaerts as a shortstop, Will Middlebrooks at third and the newly transferred Jonathan Herrera as a replacement for both positions.
