Josh Freeman Will Debut For The Vikings This Upcoming Monday
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier announced this Wednesday that him and his team plan to have their new star quarterback Josh Freeman debut next Monday against the New York Giants.
Coach Frazier also said that he appreciates Freeman’s determination, his work ethic and the amount of work he put in since he came to play for the Vikings. He also said he is a fan of Freeman’s career so far and that he thinks that the young player adapted very well with his new team.
Frazier also said that the quarterback adapted quickly to the new Viking system and that his skills coupled with his hard work earned him the opportunity he was acquired for.
The Vikings managed to acquire Freeman on October 8th just a couple of days after he was released from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after some disagreements with Tampa coach Greg Schiano. When he first signed for the Vikings, coach Frazier planned to ease him into the offensive formation, however, Freeman’s skills convinced Frazier to give him his chance sooner.
Coach Frazier also said that he doesn't want to cut current starting quarterback Christian Ponder who will probably back-up Freeman this Monday. In a recent interview, Ponder expressed his concerns, saying that he is worried that the chance to earn his starting position back might not come, and that he needs to focus on what is best for him and for the team, even if that means a departure from the Vikings is a possibility.
