July 29 Set As Windows 10 Anniversary Launch Date
A document from Microsoft showed the Windows 10 Anniversary edition may be released on July 29. The date is shown on the slides at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference 2016 or WinHEC 2016 of Microsoft, according to NokiaPowerUser. One of the slides shows the July date as the release-to-manufacturing schedule of Windows 10. Another slide shows the 90-day RTM phase starting on July 29.
The RTM is the time when the company releases a finished version of a software to device manufacturers to allow them to install it on the devices they are selling. After the issues hounding Windows 8, the software giant has been trying to convince users to shift to its new operating system. The anniversary edition is expected to be a milestone attempt in luring users to the new operating system, which is already being used on around 300 million devices, including smartphones, Xbox One game consoles, and PCs.
If the information on the slide is accurate, the date shown is logical since it is the anniversary of the official launch of Windows 10. The Windows 10 Anniversary edition is the first major update of the software, which enhances the Hello login feature and Cortana voice assistant. It also fine-tunes the Start menu to allow it to display the All Apps category.
The July 29 date is also a deadline for both the company and its users. The new software is currently being offered for free to all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. The free offer will end on July 29. After the deadline, users will have to pay $119 for the Windows 10 Home version and $199 for the Windows 10 Pro version. The company has been encouraging users to upgrade to the new software through the “Get Windows 10” notification to persuade them to shift to the new software before the deadline.
No statements were released by Microsoft on the release of the Windows 10 Anniversary edition on July 29.
