“Jurassic World” Expected To Open With Over $100 Million

Industry watchers are expecting “Jurassic World” to earn over $100 million when it hits the big screen next month.

The latest installment to the dinosaur movie series started by Steven Spielberg is set to be released on June 11 in the UK and June 12 in the United States. Aside from the Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, and Vincent D’Onofrio, “Jurassic World” also stars a CGI-generated dinosaur called the Indominus Rex.

Boxoffice.com revealed that the latest Jurassic Park movie may equal the success of previous installments of the movie. “Jurassic Park” of Steven Spielberg was the highest-grossing movie of all time from 1993 to 1997. Its record was later broken by the “Titanic” of James Cameron. An opening of over $100 million in the US will allow the movie to outperform its predecessor if it is able to perform well in the Chinese market. The upcoming movie is directed by Colin Trevorrow.

The second installment of the movie, “Lost World: Jurassic Park” was able to take in $618 million in the international market as it entered the top three movies for 1997. However, “Jurassic Park III” only took in $318 million in 2001 after Spielberg was replaced by Joe Johnston.

For the moment, only “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Fast and Furious 7” were able to surpass the $100 million mark during their respective openings this year. The two movies were able to reach the $1 billion mark globally. If predictions prove to be true, “Jurassic World” may join a number of upcoming movies that may surpass the $100 million opening mark. These movies include “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” “Star Wars” The Force Awakens” and “Spectre,” the latest James Bond movie.

However, the movie encountered a bump in the road after Joss Whedon, director of “The Avengers,” tweeted a clip from the movie with the label “70s-era sexist.” The tweet has since been taken down. While the director revealed that he regretted making the tweet, he said he was shocked by the tone of the “Jurassic World” clip.
