Keegan Bradley leads HSBC Champions Tournament, Solidifies Bid for Rookie of the Year
Shanghai — Keegan Bradley is on to a hot start at the HSBC World Championship Tournament with a 2 shoot lead on the first round with a score of 7-under 65. The rookie will be aiming for his 3rd golf title this year. If all goes well for Bradley in this tournament, he might get the Rookie of the Year Award from all the PGA Tour members for a perfect showing at his debut year. Winning 3 tournaments: 1 major and another 1, a World Championship title, will mount him to the Rookie title this year.
Other notable first round performances included Bo Van Pelt, last week’s champ in a big tournament in Malaysia, who finished tied 67 with Fredrik Jacobson and Alex Noren, both from Sweden. David Toms and K.J. Choi finished at 68. On the other hand, Francesco Molinari, the defending champion, finished 70 after a late surge that was not enough to take the top spot. Rory McIlroy also wounded up at 70 for his 2 late birdies.
The HSBC Champions Tournament which is being played at the Sheshan Internation golf course, counts as an official Tour victory once the winner is a member of the PGA Tour. The tournament will surely provide much excitement to golf enthusiasts and fans as it become tougher as it progresses.
