Kensington Palace ‘starter home’ for Prince William and Kate Middleton
Kensington Palace in London will be the site of a 'starter home' of royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton according to an announcement by St. James's Palace.
Prince William and Prince Harry lived with their late mother Diana in Kensington Palace when their parents divorced in 1996.
"We can confirm that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's official London residence will temporarily become a property at Kensington Palace," the announcement read.
A small apartment is the 'starter home' of the royal couple who are expected to move into a larger residence in London in the near future. But the newlyweds' farm in Anglesey, Wales will remain their main home.
Kensington Palace is also the home of many royals including Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. Prince William and wife Catherine will be occupying a relatively less-opulent small apartment in the palace whenever they are in London.
The royal couple are staying at Clarence House but will move into their Kensington Palace property later this month. Buckingham Palace and St. James's Palace are also said to be considered for a permanent residence for Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Kensington Palace is familiar environment for Prince William, who along with Prince Harry, spent his childhood days living at the residence. But the royal couple will not be moving to the same apartment used by the siblings and Princess Diana because that has been converted to an office after she died.
Kensington Palace is currently undergoing 'modest' refurbishment for the move by the royal couple, St. James's Palace said.
