Kurdish Fighters Take Central Buildings In Kobane

Kurdish troops have made gains in the fight against the Islamic State terrorists that have besieged the Syrian border town of Kobane. According to sources from the London based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Syrian Kurds have taken back several strategically located buildings in central Kobane as well as seizing weapons and other supplies.

The gains have been made after a well-organized aerial attack by US forces. The four air strikes against ISIS positions coupled with the special operation set in motion by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units seem to have changed the tide in a fight that has been raging for nearly six months.

Kurdish forces killed thirteen ISIS fighters and managed to capture a sizeable amount of weapons including several RPG rounds, sniper guns and a vast amount of ammunition. US airstrikes against Islamic State positions in Syria started in September, just a few days before IS attacked Kobane. Nearly 1,200 people have died in the battle for the small border town most of which were fighters. Amongst Syrian Kurdish fighters, Iraqi peshmerga forces and Syrian rebels have joined the US led fight in Kobane.

The town has since become the main symbol of the fight against IS terrorists and their rigid interpretation of Islamic law.
