Kurdish Militia Fight al-Qaida In Syria

After the killing of a Kurdish opposition leader in the northern part of Syria by al-Qaida members, a Kurdish militia will be formed to counter the threat of terrorism in the oil rich region.

The Jabhat al-Nusra and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant members have been carrying out attacks on the Kurdish majority in the region leaving tens and hundreds dead on both sides.

This Tuesday the situation changed as a car-bomb killed one of the most influential political leaders in the region, Issa Hisso. The Kurdish Democratic Union Party said in a statement that the attack will not influence Kurdish politics or lifestyle in the region.

Hisso was a controversial character that criticized both contested president Bashar al-Assad and radical groups like Jabhat al-Nusra and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

A spokesman for the KDUP said in a statement that army mobilization in the area was verified and that it is normal for troops to be deployed as long as the Kurdish area is under attack.

Meanwhile, the rebel city of Homs was hit by mortars and air strikes by Bashar loyal forces that are trying to recapture what was once one of the most important opposition held cities.
If the city of Homs is taken back by government troops the Assad regime will gain control on the three largest cities in the country and strike a blow to all al-Qaida backed organizations in Syria.
