Kyle Orton Retires From Football

Kyle Orton recently announced that he would retire from football, ending weeks of speculation on whether he would use the player option on his contract. The ten-year BFL veteran revealed at the locker room while the Buffalo Bills were cleaning their lockers that it was a family decision.

The 31-year-old replaced EJ Manuel as the starting quarterback in Week 5. He led Buffalo to three wins in October. But, his luck did not hold out in the second half as the Bills went 4-4. The 9-7 record of the team was not enough for them to enter the playoffs.

But, some analysts indicated that the game of Kyle Orton was sub-par, and Buffalo is expected to make changes in his position in the future. Buffalo will have a difficult time in filling the position since the free agent market lacks quality players and the team does not have a draft pick in the first round of 2015.

The career of Orton took saw him playing for a number of teams, including Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Dallas and Buffalo. He has a total of 18,037 passing yards, 69 interceptions and 101 touchdowns. He said spending time with the family is important for him and his wife. He added that his decision was not based on anything related to footballs since it was a family decision.

The decision of Orton surprised Fred Jackson, the running back of the Buffalo Bills. He said he did not expect Orton to make the announcement and it will be necessary to pick the brain of Orton to see how he made the decision. Jackson added that the retirement of Orton is one of the things where everything has to be evaluated during the offseason and it may not be considered as a setback.

The retirement of Kyle Orton means the Bills will only have Jeff Tuel and Manuel as the quarterbacks in their lineup.
