Lance Armstrong loses SCA Promotions Arbitration

SCA Promotions, a Dallas based promotion company, announced today a 2-1 arbitration decision ruled in its favor according to which Lance Armstrong and Tailwinds Sports Corporation are liable to pay up to $10 million dollars to the complainant. This decision has now been confirmed by Texas' 116th Civil District Court.

SCA promotions had paid Lance Armstrong and Tailwind about $12 million during his career during which he won seven Tour De France titles; Lance Armstrong and his team have since been stripped off from all of these titles after they were found to have used performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) which are banned. The lawsuit was filed after U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) revealed "organised doping" tactics used by Lance Armstrong and after his own confession on Oprah Winfrey's show. He admitted to using PEDs.

It should be noted though that during 2005 arbitration hearings, Armstrong had denied usage of any banned PEDs. He was under oath. Armstrong had first sued SCA due to non-payment of bonuses. SCA contested this first lawsuit complaining by pointing out that Armstrong had violated the agreement by using PEDs. However, SCA eventually settled by paying $7.5 million after Armstrong's denial under oath.

"Perjury must never be profitable. Tailwind Sports Corp. and Lance Armstrong have justly earned wide public condemnation. That is an inadequate deterrent. Deception demands real, meaningful sanctions," the arbitration paneled noted in the latest lawsuit brought in by SCA against Lance Armstrong to reclaim the $7.5 million paid in the previous settlement.
