With Stephen Colbert confirmed and on his way to replace David Letterman as the host of CBS’ Late Night Show in 2015, the time-slot his Colbert Report occupied was a coveted position in the Comedy Central lineup.

The network announced this Friday that the post-Daily Show slot will be taken over by award winning writer and satirist Larry Wilmore. He will be the host of The Minority report with Larry Wilmore, a show that promises to bring a new and unique view on news, current events and pop culture.

Jon Stewart created the Minority Report and will executive produce the show along with Wilmore. The new host expressed his excitement in a statement released this Friday. He said that he is “beyond excited” for the amazing opportunity to continue his professional relationship with Comedy Central while also working with the “brilliant” Jon Stewart. He also remarked that he loves New York and will wear his Los Angeles Lakers shirt “only when layering.”

Jon Stewart didn’t miss the opportunity and jokingly replied that while Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comedic writer, the new show is just about getting him to New York in order to turn him into a Knicks fan. The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore is due to premiere in early 2015.
