Leonardo DiCaprio Reveals His Initial Reluctance For “The Great Gatsby” Role

Leonardo DiCaprio revealed that he was not too eager to accept the role on “The Great Gatsby” when it was initially offered to him. He explained this reluctance during a recent interview.

He revealed that he was hesitant since people have their own individual interpretation of the characters, which makes the novel rather powerful. He said that he would have turned down the role if director Baz Luhrman did not convince him to accept the role. He admitted that it was not easy to say no to the director.

The Oscar-nominated star was able to work with the director on the set of “Romeo and Juliet.” Luhrman is still eager to work with Leonardo DiCaprio on another picture even after working with him in two other projects. He said that “The Great Gatsby” is the American version of Hamlet. However, he could not think of a great follow-up for this project for the moment.

“The Great Gatsby” will hit the big screen on May 10. It follows the life of budding writer Nick Carraway when he travels to New York from the Midwest to follow his American Dream. He soon finds himself in the house of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who lives across the bay from Daisy and Tom Buchanan, his cousin and her husband.

In addition to Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays Jay Gatsby, the other stars in the cast of “The Great Gatsby” include Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton.
