Leto To Play The Joker On The Suicide Squad

Jared Leto will play the arch-nemesis of the Batman in the upcoming Warner Bros. movie, “Suicide Squad.” David Ayer is the writer and director of the upcoming action film. The movie focuses on supervillains and is scheduled to hit the big screen on August 5, 2016.

The movie will also have Tom Hardy, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie and Will Smith in its cast. The movie is based on a DC Comics series that follows a group of super-powered convicts performing missions for the government. Hardy plays the role of Rick Flagg, the leader of the group. Courtney will play Captain Boomerang while Robbie is cast as Harley Quinn, the psychotic girlfriend of the Joker. Smith will play the role of Deadshot and the Enchantress will be played by Cara Delevingne. Creative Development and Worldwide Production president of Warner Bros. Greg Silverman revealed that the studio is looking forward in putting together this incredible group for the “Suicide Squad” under the guidance of Ayer. It gives a new meaning to being a villain and hero.

Leto is the first actor to play the role of the Joker since the Oscar-winning performance of the late Heath Ledger in the 2008 movie, “The Dark Knight.” The other supervillains in the group are based on the 1980s comic book that included Deadshot, Boomerang, Enchantress and Rick Flagg. Harley Quinn was included as part of the current version of the DC Comics series.

Filming for the movie is set to start in April at Toronto. The movie is part of the shared cinematic universe of DC, which started with the “Man of Steel” last year, and will continue with the “Dawn of Justice” in 2016. Superman in the 2016 movie will be played by Henry Cavill while Ben Affleck plays the role of the Batman. Zack Snyder is one of the executive producers of “Suicide Squad.”
