Lily James From “Downton Abbey” Cast As Cinderella

Lily James of “Downton Abbey” fame will star in Kenneth Branagh’s new live action Cinderella movie.

Disney’s new, live action twist on Cinderella will be directed by Kenneth Branagh and will star Lily James as the beautiful Cinderella in what may be a very popular interpretation.

Another big name that will surely rouse interest is Cate Blanchett, whose role will be to play Cinderella’s evil stepmother.

James had a fantastic debut in "Downton Abbey" where she played Lady Rose McClare. Apparently her fans can rest assured that their favorite will be coming back in season 4 of the popular show. James also starred in the 2012 blockbuster Wrath of the Titans where she played Korrina.

Emma Watson was also considered for the role but the two parts apparently couldn't come to an understanding.

The project was started in May of 2010 after the success of the Lewis C. Carroll live action adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” that starred Johnny Depp.

The first version of the script for the new Cinderella movie was written by Alline Brosh McKenna.

Lily James became very visible after playing the rambunctious and adventure seeking Lady Rose McClare in the third season of “Downton Abbey”.
