London Riots End, Over 2,000 Arrested
London — Almost 2,000 people were already arrested and 50 percent of that number has successfully been charged by London courts majority with capital offence. Everyday since the riots have been calmed down already, front pages of all London newspapers features accounts of several individuals accused to have been part of the recent widespread unrest in the city. Because of the growing number of rioters caught, courts were forced to extend special sessions overnight just accommodate the number of rioters placed under trial.
The London police have successfully brought back peace and order in some parts of the city plagued by recent riots. The unrest can be traced back from the northern London suburb of Tottenham where a local man was shot dead by a police. Later on, the violence spread throughout other London neighborhoods that made headlines worldwide. Peaceful and relatively calm nights are restored back in the city of London. The world now waits what will happen next especially to those arrested by the London Police.
Notable was Chelsea Ives, an 18 year old girl, placed under trial. Ives boldly said that she has been picked to be one of the 2012 London Olympic Games ambassadors next year. But the Organizing Committee of the 2012 Games invalidated her claim. However, the committee said Ives is a Waltham Forest Borough youth ambassador. A London newspaper also features a 12 year old boy from Manchester and an 11 year old girl from Nottingham who both pleaded guilty of all the charges they were involved. 16,000 police officers are now being deployed throughout the city since Tuesday and were ordered to remain in the streets till the coming weekend.
