Los Angeles Lakers Owner Jerry Buss Dies This Monday

Jerry Buss, Los Angeles Lakers owner who molded one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA died this Monday at 80 years old.

Buss had been in and out of hospitals for the last 18 months for cancer treatment, however the cause of death was not the terrible disease but kidney failure declared sources close to the Lakers owner.

Buss started his work with the LA Lakers in 1979 and developed the Lakers into the most beloved and recognizable teams in Southern California, and indeed on the West Coast. Under his leadership, the LA Lakers saw some of the greatest athletes to ever play the game, from Magic Johnson to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and from Shaquille O’Neal to Kobe Bryant.

During his ownership of the club the Lakers won 10 titles and played 16 finals in 34 years. With a total of 1,786 victories, the Lakers are the NBA’s biggest team when it comes to the number of wins.

Jerry Buss was born in Salt Lake City and had an impoverished childhood before he managed to get a college diploma and to make his fortune as a real estate developer.

Jerry Buss’ children Jim and Jeanie Buss are currently running the Lakers as they said it was their father’s wish for the club to be run by family members.
