Love hauls down 31 rebounds, adds 31 points for good measure

Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves had a career night on Friday, hauling down a whopping 31 rebounds and added 31 points, as the Wolves rallied to beat the visiting New York Knicks 112-103. It was the first 30-30 game in 28 years in the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the biggest rebounding total since Charles Barkley’s 33 way back in 1993. Moses Malone was the last player to have a 30-30 game when he did it 1982 for Houston.

“I just got a good mindset that every single one was mine,” said Love, who had a nice 23-point, 24-rebound outing against the Lakers on Tuesday.

“It seemed like no matter what anybody did I was going to go and get those rebounds. I don’t know what to tell you,” Love said. “I’m impressed myself. I don’t even know what to say to be honest with you.”

Love has always been considered a good rebounder, but this night was pretty special. He had 15 rebounds and 11 points in the pivotal third quarter alone, leading the Wolves from 21 points down during the quarter. The Wolves carried the momentum over into the final quarter, starting with a 10-0 run.

Michael Beasley added 35 points, six rebounds and a little bit of everything, but his performance was overshadowed by the one displayed by his teammate. “It’s amazing. Every rebound came off the guy. Twenty and 20 is one thing. But 30 and 30?,” he said.

The Wolves’ surge overwhelmed the depleted Knicks, who were led by Amare Stoudemire, who was in foul trouble all night and never got rolling, and Danilo Gallinari who scored 25 points.
