Lumia 1020 May Receive the Windows Phone 10 For Phones Update Soon

While Windows 10 for phones is expected to be released to a number of smartphones in the market, including the Lumia 1020, the first build is not expected to be free of bugs. Tweets from PHP and Java developer Jesse Leskinen indicated that the HTC One M8 along with the Lumia 1520 and 1020 will receive the WP10.

Although Microsoft has yet to confirm the information provided by Leskinen, the important thing to consider is the fact that the latest OS of the tech giant is currently being tested on these devices. It remains to be seen how far back Microsoft will release the upcoming OS. The Lumia Denim/Lumia Camera update may have been perfect for the 41MP camera of the Lumia 1020, but a number of customers were upset after the company did not offer the update for these devices.

An event held in Redmond last month revealed a number of features offered by the Windows 10 for phones. Microsoft showed how data in Windows PCs and phones using the OS can be synched. It also provided a sneak peak at a number of universal apps that will be featured on the phones.

Operating Systems Group corporate vice president Joe Belfiore revealed that the Windows 10 Technical Preview will be released to existing Windows phones. Microsoft recently expanded its Windows Phone lineup with a number of low-cost phones. Some of these phones have a limited available memory to reduce expenses.

However, Belfiore revealed that the features on these phones with a limited available memory will be different. The revelation was similar to the announcement of Microsoft when it indicated that Windows tablets are set to receive the Windows 10 update.

A technical preview of the new OS also emerged. The preview had a number of issues, including the issue where the battery life of phones is drained, which causes the devices to heat up. Other issues that emerged include non-functioning of the glance screen and poor animations. While it appears that glance-screen issue may be limited to the HTC One indicating that the Windows 10 for phones is still currently being tested on this particular phone, it remains uncertain when the OS will be released to other phones, including the Lumia 1020.
