Madonna Launches Material Girl Line in Macy’s
Macy’s is set to launch on Tuesday pop legend Madonna and her daughter’s “Material Girl” line, in hopes of attracting young women to its stores for back-to-school shopping.
The line is to be sold online and in 200 locations nationwide. Actress and singer Taylor Momsen, the face of “Material Girl”, will perform in a concert at Macy’s Herald Square flagship store in New York, amidst windows that were redesigned with a “Material World” theme.
Fans in Los Angeles will line up at the Glendale Galleria to participate in a Madonna look-alike contest organized by a local radio station. Special giveaways and an autographed T-shirt, among other items, are up for grabs during the event. Glendale and South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa will hold dance parties featuring music of Madonna, who has sold more than 200 million albums.
There is also another contest where fans will have an opportunity to win a trip to New York to meet the music icon. Contestants can join via text messaging or at Macy’s website.
The collection is a project of Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes “Lola” Ciccone Leon, for fashion-conscious teens.
The singer touted her daughter’s fashion style in a promotional video for Macy’s. "I always have two reactions when Lola comes into my room with an outfit on. "One is, oh my God, she looks amazing, what incredible style. My second reaction is, she's dressed completely inappropriately for school. Because there's a restriction, it makes her have to be more creative.”
“I really like the way Lola dresses, and this line is an extension of her taste,” the Grammy winning Madonna added.
The singer said that Macy’s was the perfect partner for her daughter’s collection since everybody goes there, and it has many locations.
