Makeup – what you need to know about blush

The blush is one of the most used cosmetics, along with foundation cream, mascara or lipstick. Once applied, it brightens and revitalizes your face, it structures the makeup and creates a game of lights and shadows that delicately shape your features. Here is a small guide that will help you choose the right blush.

How is it applied?

For the cheekbones to stand out when you apply the blush, look in the mirror, smile and then apply it, distributing it evenly with back and forth moves, easily ascending, starting from a distance of two fingers from the base of your nose, climbing to the temples and along the bone of the cheeks.

If your face has a round or square shape (the cheekbones are wide), apply the blush at the top of your cheekbones and spread it lightly to the temples, outlining the lines of the cheekbones in order to “thin” your face.

If your face has an oval shape (narrow cheekbones), apply the blush diagonally in order to give brightness to your cheek and make it appear wider.

Shades of blush fit for the color of your complexion

When choosing a blush, the first condition is for it to fit the natural color of your complexion in order to give it a fresh and healthy look, and the second one is to be in tone with the shade of the lipstick you’ll use.

Light, pale complexion or a complexion with red spots – the suitable shades of blush are the pale ones like: light coral, peach, pink, rose-pink. But be careful how you apply it if you already have a natural blush to your cheeks, as you don’t want to exaggerate with the quantity, but just want to delicately outline the cheek so it will appear as natural as possible.

Medium color complexion – you should use earthly pink, coral warm pink. If your complexion has a yellow shade, it would be best to go with coral or copper colors.

Dark, olive or suntanned complexion – is lightened by copper colors, a light shade of plum, brown-pink or peach. If your complexion is darker, you’ll probably think that the blush won’t be very visible, so don’t put on too much because it will affect the rest of your makeup.

Types of blushes

  • The powder blush – is recommended if you have an oily complexion or a face that sweats easily. The advantage is that it will hold longer and its shade is more intense than the cream type, so be careful how much you put on! But don’t worry if you use too much, it can be easily diminished with a little loose powder, applied with the whisk brush;
  • The creamy blush – is more delicate, it has less pigment and is harder to apply, but it has the advantage of being more “natural” in look because it isn’t as visible as the powder one. It goes well with the normal or dry types of complexion because the creamy texture doesn’t go too well with the oily type that is already shiny because of the excess sebum.
