Manchester United Owner Malcolm Glazer Dies

Malcolm Glazer, the owner of two of the world’s most recognized sport brands, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Premier League club Manchester United passed away this Wednesday at the age of 85. The self made billionaire had been experiencing health problems since April of 2006 when a severe stroke left him with limited to no mobility in his right arm and leg and impaired speech.

The billionaire was not involved in the operations of the two clubs and since his 2006 accident was rarely seen participating in the events of either team.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell praised Glazer’s dedication, leadership and passion adding that his and his organization’s thoughts are with his wife, children and the entire Glazer family.

Malcolm Glazer purchased the Bucs, one of the poorest managed teams in the NFL in 1995 for a record breaking sum of $192 million. While he himself admitted that he may have overpaid, the team is currently worth four times as much as his initial investment.

His next major purchase was made in 2005 when he purchased one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and in world soccer. For an impressive $1.47 billion dollars in a move that was then opposed by most of the team’s fans, Malcolm Glazer bought Manchester United.
