Mark Cavendish May Have Had Urine Thrown At Him

A rather unpleasant incident put a dim light on today’s Tour de France as British cyclist Mark Cavendish from the Omega Pharma-Quick Step team was hit with a yet unidentified liquid that is believed to be urine.
Omega Pharma-Quick Step’s press officer Alessandro Tegner was behind the British cyclist at the time and said that while he didn’t see the incident with his own eyes, he believes the liquid thrown was indeed urine.

He said that Cavendish who was covered in the liquid that smelled like urine wasn’t aware of what happened and only stopped at the end of the time trial from the Mont-Saint-Michel course located on the Brittany coast.

Patrick Lefevere, team manager said that Cavendish is not as much upset as is saddened by the incident, adding that he can’t blame authorities, organizers or the fans as there are anywhere between 100,000 to 200,000 people on the side of the road.

It is just a sad incident that casts a bad shadow on the sport that is already shaken by recent doping incidents.
The Tour de France is famous for being a free event where millions of fans and bystanders sit roadside as cyclists speed by in rural and urban areas alike. Incidents like the Mark Cavendish are bound to happen and have happened before even with a more violent nature.
