Mark Sanchez Underwent Surgery For Shoulder Injury
Quarterback Mark Sanchez underwent surgery after managing to injure his shoulder in a less than important preseason game six weeks ago. The New York Jets quarterback entered the operating room late this Tuesday to fix his torn labrum a press release from the Jets announced.
The season is over for the star quarterback but any more delay and his career could have also ended. Sanchez, who was a first round pick back in 2009 initially wanted to rehab the injury, but under the advice of Dr. James Andrews he chose to “address it surgically”.
The Jets player also said that his doctors gave him a 100 percent chance to make a full recovery. He added that he can’t wait to return to the field in 2014, however, whether it will be for the Jets or another team is still uncertain. Sanchez has a contract with the Jets until 2016 but with a salary cap of $13.1 million in 2014 he might be traded especially as the New York team seems determined to give rookie Geno Smith a chance to grow.
While after the first signs, the shoulder problem appeared to be a “day to day injury” as Sanchez himself categorized it, it quickly developed into a big problem for both the quarterback and the Jets coach, Rex Ryan who lost one of his star players for the rest of the season.
